Dr. Panayotis
Alexakis has studied Economics in Greece, (B.A. 1975) and in Great Britain,
(M. SC., 1977 and Ph.D. in International Money and Finance, 1981). In 1978
he was a teaching assistant at the Economics Department, Queen's University,
Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
In Greece
he worked at the Ministry of National Economy, Division of Inter-Country Economic
Relations and at the Bank of Greece, Currency Section of the Research Division.
In 1985 he started his academic career, firstly at the Department of Business
Administration of the University of the Aegean and, since 1995, at the Department
of Economics of the University of Athens, where he is an Associate Professor,
teaching managerial economics and finance. Dr. Alexakis has published scientific
articles in international journals in his field, while he has presented papers
in international conferences.
He has
worked as a financial consultant and member of board of directors for industrial
firms, banks and non-bank financial institutions. Before his current job,
he has been Chairman and Managing Director for ERGOSE, dealing with the finance
and project management of railway projects and Chairman and Managing Director
of ASYK S.A., an affiliate Company of Athens Exchange, dealing with systems
development for the Greek stock market and applied studies and solutions for
financial issues of the stock market. Since May 1998 he is Chairman and Managing
Director of ADEX. In August 2000 he became President of the Athens Exchange
S.A.
