Neil Eckert is Chief Executive Officer of Brit Insurance Holdings PLC, the company that began as The Benfield & Rea Investment Trust in November 1995 and re-listed as an insurance company in 1999 as a result of its acquisition of Wren PLC and Benfield Re (now Brit Insurance Limited).

Brit is a specialist underwriter of direct and reinsurance business written through its Lloyd's operations and its FSA regulated insurance company Brit Insurance Limited. Brit also has substantial stakes in an investment management company and various distribution companies.

Brit moved into the FTSE 250 in September 2002 and recently raised £204 million through a Placing and Open Offer in order to take advantage of the current underwriting environment and is now the largest quoted UK owned insurance company in the London Market

Neil became a Lloyd's reinsurance broker in 1980, joining the Benfield Group in 1986. He joined the main Board the Benfield Group 1991 and subsequently the Boards of several of its subsidiary companies. He resigned from all Benfield Boards in January 2000 to concentrate on his role at Brit.

He is also Non-Executive Chairman of Design Technology & Innovation Limited, a patenting and intellectual property Company.
