Mr. Williams currently directs much of Nuveen's new product development effort for closed-end funds. Nuveen is the industry's leading sponsor and manager of closed-end funds with total assets just under management of $44 billion, including 120 funds.
Mr. Williams joined Nuveen in 1971 and has been closely associated with the development of Nuveen's closed-end fund business since the late 1980's. He is credited with originating the leveraged municipal bond fund concept. He played a key role implementing the strategic diversification of Nuveen's closed-end fund product line across a variety of new asset classes and strategies, including, among others, floating rate loans, REITs, preferred securities, index equity option overlays, currencies and emerging market debt. Most recently, Nuveen's product team has concentrated on refinancing solutions for the auction rate securities issued by Nuveen's leveraged funds, including the development of variable rate demand preferred (VRDP) for its municipal funds among other solutions.
Mr. Williams graduated from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.
