Michael J. Woods

Michael joins XTF after serving as a Managing Director at Legg Mason. Michael had been the US Head of Sub-Advisory and Investment Only Business from 2000 – 2006 for Salomon Brothers / CitiGroup Asset Management. He was responsible for strategic business decisions, product development strategies, budgeting, client relationship management and all fund board management. He was also a member of their US Retail Operating Committee. Prior to Citigroup, Michael was the Director of Distribution for Rittenhouse / Nuveen and a National Sales Manager for Delaware Investments/Voyageur Investments. He has demonstrated success in raising assets from creating innovative investment products and customized product solutions for financial intermediary partners.
Michael brings a unique grasp and understanding of the financial industry as he has held positions throughout the full spectrum of the financial distribution business. He started his career as a financial representative for Advest and Prudential Securities, became a wholesaler for Prudential and Voyageur Investments, then advanced into the national sales management and national account management roles with Delaware Investments and Rittenhouse/Nuveen. His most recent position at Salomon Brothers / CitiGroup Asset Management culminated in 2005 prior to their purchase by Legg Mason. In six years of running the Sub-Advisory and Investment Only business, his team took net assets under management from approximately $1 billion to over $27 billion and annual gross sales from $600 million to almost $9 billion. This was one of the fastest growing businesses in the firms history.
Michael is regularly quoted and featured in leading national and trade financial media, including; The Wall Street Journal; MarketWatch; Investment News; SmartMoney; American Banker; Ignites; and Investors Business Daily.
He is CIMA and CIMC certified. Michael graduated from Taylor University where he excelled in business studies, football and track. He is very active in private charity work where he is a member of the board for The Children’s Village in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Michael lives in New York City.
