John F. (Jack) F. Tierney, Executive Director of Unit Investment Trust Product Management for Van Kampen Investments. Jack is responsible for the oversight, implementation and coordination of new business development and product management activities for the firm's Unit Trust business. Prior to Director of Unit Investment Trust, Jack worked within Van Kampen's Consulting Group as the Director of Sales Training. In this role, he trains Van Kampen
Investment's Internal Sales Consultants and Regional Vice Presidents, as well as sales desks and registered
representatives of various financial services firms around the country, on such topics as the Consultative Selling Approach and Financial Engineering.
Mr. Tierney joined Van Kampen Merritt in 1984 as a wholesaler in the Broker/Dealer Division covering the Midwest territory, representing Van Kampen's mutual fund and unit investment trust product lines. In 1989, he was given the Wholesaler of the Year award. In June of 1991, he assumed the Unit Investment Trust Product Manager position, where he was responsible for marketing, sales promotion, product development and product positioning as it related to Van Kampen's UIT product line. In 1997, Mr. Tierney assumed the role of Director of Product Management for Van Kampen American Capital's Mutual Fund product line. In 1998, Mr. Tierney became the Director of Marketing Services for Van Kampen American Capital; this role included responsibility for Marketing Research, Product Information, and The Banner Group, VKAC's top-producer club. In 1999, Mr. Tierney took on the role of Director of Business Development, in
which he was responsible for hiring, training and managing a staff of internal Business Development Specialists. This newlyformed group was responsible for working with the internal sales consultants and regional vice presidents to further penetrate and develop sales in various geographic territories around the country. Prior to joining Van Kampen, Mr. Tierney spent four years with Merrill Lynch in Chicago as a Financial Advisor, two years with 3M's Business
Products Division as a sales rep, and three years as a high school teacher and coach in suburban Chicago.
Mr. Tierney received his B.S. in Marketing and his M.S. in Business Education from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois; he serves on the Board of Directors of the NIU Alumni Association.
