A. MICHAEL LIPPER, CFA*
Mr. Lipper’s
current professional activities are mostly involved with Lipper Advisory
Services, Inc. a registered investment adviser that provides advice
and management of accounts investing in portfolios of mutual funds and
separate account managers with current assets in excess of $1 billion.
He is also a managing member of L&S Partners I, LLC a private financial
services hedge fund. Mr. Lipper continues to accept a limited number
of consulting assignments dealing with funds and brokerage firms through
Lipper Consulting Services, Inc.
He has
been an investor in equities for approximately 50 years, an investor
in funds for approximately 40 years, an analyst of securities for 40
years and an analyst of funds for over 30 years. Many of the large investment
organizations of the world have consulted with him on various investment
issues. He has been a regular source of comments to the global press.
Mr. Lipper
founded Lipper Analytical Services, Inc., an investment firm dedicated
to the analysis of funds and brokerage firms in 1973. He sold it to
Reuters Group plc in 1998. Reuters has transformed the firm into Lipper
Inc..
Mr. Lipper
has been active in various industry associations. For 1993-1994 term,
he served as President of the New York Society of Security Analysts.
He has served on the Society’s Board for some part of each of
the last four decades. In May of 2003, he was reelected to the board
as Treasurer of the New York Society of Security Analysts. For many
years, he was the chairman of the Investment Strategy Forum/Portfolio
Management Committee of the Society. Mr. Lipper has been a Regional
Director of the Financial Analysts Federation and a Director of the
International Society of Financial Analysts. He also is a Past Chairman
of the Specialty Firms Advisory Committee to the New York Stock Exchange
Board of Directors.
In terms
of Mr. Lipper’s “pro bono” New Jersey activities,
he is Chairman of the Investment Sub-committee and a member of the Financial
Oversight Committee of Atlantic Health Systems, Trustee of Drew University
and Co-chair of its Finance Committee and chairs the New Jersey Performing
Arts Center Investment Committee.
After graduating
from Columbia College in 1957, Mr. Lipper joined the U.S. Marine Corps.
In 1960, he left active duty as a Communications Officer/Combat Cargo
Officer to embark on his professional career as a securities analyst.
He and his wife Ruth live in Summit, New Jersey. He has four grown children
and six grandchildren living in New Jersey and California.
In 1987,
the No Load Mutual Fund Association awarded him the “No Load Mutual
Fund Association Achievement Award”. He is a member of Barron’s
All Century Team.
